CAE Northeast Regional Teaching Exchange

Presented by CAE Northeast Regional Teaching Exchange Coordinators Amy Forestell (SUNY New Paltz) and Paul Robinson (Westchester Community College)

CAE Regional Teaching Exchanges are designed to foster a sense of community amongst geographically linked current and future Astro 101 instructors. We at CAE don’t want you to feel isolated, and we don’t want you to have to wait to attend (or re-attend) a CAE Tier I workshop to continue your professional development. We have regional experts from the broader CAE community ready, willing, and able to provide the opportunity for you to meet your neighbors, expand your instructional repertoire, and share your own expertise.

So grab your colleagues—instructors, graduate students, and postdocs, alike—and join the Exchange!

This regional teaching exchange will engage participating instructors with best practices in Think-Pair-Share/Peer Instruction. An introduction to the techniques will be provided to those who need it, and advanced instruction will be provided to instructors who have previously implemented Think-Pair-Share in their classes.

Participants will engage in activities focused on crafting formative assessment techniques, including integrated writing exercises. Finally, we’ll present and discuss techniques to use simulations and demonstrations in the classroom, to help our students better understand visual representations, and to appropriately predict and explain the outcomes of physical situations.
